Different

At times people have asked me where I get the ideas for the characters in my book(s).  The answer is: Everywhere.  All around me, in everyone and everything, but mostly inside me.  I must disagree with any of those writers who maintain (or even think) that their characters are not connected or part of any of friends, family, interesting relatives or even their grocer!  We are writers.  We CREATE people.  If you don’t have a story, watch out!  We’ll give you one! For free!  Yes, free.  Seriously.  Do you get to change it . . .   Well, perhaps.

The World Around Us

September 7, 2012 at 2:59 am (Uncategorized)

Sometimes watching the news about the world around is challenging.  I admit it, I have been a fan of Nancy Grace for quite some time.  I believe she is a ferocious advocate for the victims of crime and admire that.  Yet sometimes I wonder how she deals with reporting mostly about violence that we humans perpitrate against each other on an almost daily basis.  I imagine her rushing hom to the sanctuary and peaceful light of her husband and twins..  But do be careful, nancy.  We need you, but not at the cost of you getting bogged down in the sadness, violence and death that you report in this world.

SOMETIMES LIFE IS NO FUN

July 2, 2012 at 11:15 pm (Uncategorized)

I am finally moving forward and getting back into doing my blogs.  I apologize for the delay, but want to thank my family, friends and subscribers for being there to support me when my brother passed away.  Robert E. Baker (aka Bub) was my only brother and the oldest in my family.  He was a Korean War Veteran and would have been 80 years old on June 3.  He supported my writing career wholeheartedly.   I miss him, but work every day to make him proud.

How Do Your Characters Grow

May 24, 2012 at 2:44 pm (Uncategorized)

I don’t know how other authors feel when they read books by others, but my brain will not allow me to just read for pleasure anymore (yes, I am cursed).  Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on your view, that WB entity that I have must analyze what it was that made the book a good, average, or uninteresting one to me.   Of course, the answer is always, CHARACTERS.  How are yours?   Do you know them?  Really know them?  Do they speak to you?  If not, perhaps you need to get to know them better.  Even though playing God to all the people in the book and dragging them around for your pleasure is fun, it does NOT make for good reading.  Let them tell the story by their actions.

Creation

April 30, 2012 at 4:47 pm (Uncategorized)

As Gods and Goddesses we chose to create the two tribes.  They were placed in Ancient Persia near the city of Persopolis.  It was an easy decision for us to enjoy ourselves by playing with the mortals until they began to have questions and independence.  How dare they!  That is precisely the reason that a Goddess such as I must deign to intervene in their pathetic lives.  Now what shall I do?   Hmmm.

Careful

April 23, 2012 at 4:43 pm (Uncategorized)

Ah, women!  They are so petty and flightly at times.  Although it is an annoyance at time, what can you do?  We cannot live without them!  Women are so beautiful to look upon.  A God must be careful, however, not to choose one with too much independence!  Perhaps, just enough to be interesting, but not so much that they realize they need us less than we need them.  Shhh.  Do not allow them to discover our secret.

Help for my Friends

April 16, 2012 at 11:40 am (Uncategorized)

Being around since time began is sometimes a challenge.  How many centuries dos it take to do all the things you dreamed of?  Or go all the places you’ve every been curious about?  Or try everything that has the slightest interest for you?  So what next?  Ah, it is time for their Star to check in with the humans and see what I might do to help them.

Writing Advice

April 9, 2012 at 4:30 pm (Uncategorized)

Now that you have met the Gods and Goddesses of Ancient Persia who will select a tribe of Wiccans and a tribe of Vampyres to join and become the first Chimera, I’m sure you could feel the blance of the light and dark ones.  Are you ready to talk about writing?   One of the most important things I have learned is that talent is a wonderful thing to have, but it is not enough. Hard work and talent is what it takes for those who really want to do it for a living.  However, the most important thing of all is to ENJOY!

Intervene

April 2, 2012 at 10:26 am (Uncategorized)

How dull and tiresome are the three of you!  Allow me to intervene.  It will be my pleasure as their God named for fire, to introduce them to my powers of persuasion.  I possess so many wonderfully disturbing and delicious attributes to foist upon them.  How do I choose which will be the most entertaining?  Enough watching.  I must take action!
