Moving Forward

Sometimes we are our own worst enemies when it comes to our dreams.

We don’t have time.  Our family needs us.  Our characters aren’t talking to us.  We need to do more research.  Really?

Oh, and don’t forget the really good one – procrastination.  That’s my favorite.

I have discovered something new about myself.  Don’t laugh.  It’s not that easy as you get older!

What I discovered is that if I just start to write, it works!  Ok, not ALL the time, but the biggest part of the time.  And that is enough for me.  I believe that as long as I keep doing it, I will get better and better and it will be much easier for the characters to tell me what they want to do to move the novel forward.  Or the short story.

I just fished the short story I am going to submit for March.  Wish me luck!

Procrastination – Squared

March 22, 2011 at 12:56 am (Uncategorized)

When we know we need to get something done, why do we always . . . ok, almost always put it off?

I know it’s not just me!  You know who you are (yes, my friends and familty for sure!).  Whew, I feel better now.  But just for a moment.  I think . . . OK, I know I’ve been a procrastinator all my life.  I have never been able to figure out why.

Maybe it’s fear.  Fear that once it’s done, it won’t be as good as you thought it would.  But what difference does that make?  It certainly doesn’t mean that you can’t change it, edit it, add to it, delete things from it, or whatever you want to do to make it what you knew it could be.

So what’s the holdup?  Why do we put the pressure on ourselves?

Aha!  We like it!  Right?  Sure, it’s just me.  Whatever . . .

Crazy Life

March 1, 2011 at 2:32 am (Uncategorized)

I am so happy that my son is doing so well after having quadruple bypass surgery!  But . . .

I had no idea how much work it was to take care of three kids and get them where they need to be, plus try and get some help with his short term disability!   All I’ve done since he got out of the hospital is run, run, run!

Guess that’s why people have kids when they’re younger!  How the hairy heck would we ever keep up??

I love them all dearly, but  . . .   Thank goodness I only had one!  (And a good one!)
